«For many
centuries, Clan Kempie ruled the lands around Cape Wrath. Ferocious people they
were, defending their territory. However, in 1769, a tremendous battle between
rival clans slaughtered more than 1500 men, burying Warriors and pipers under
these hills. It is rumoured that, as of today, in cold, cloudy and misty days,
their wraths rise from the grounds to haunt those who dare to invade their
lands. Several people who come to walk around here have seen them spirits. We
are all doomed, doomed I tell you.»
A
gravestone in memory of Clan Kempie lies just outside the narrow gravel road
leading to the northwesternmost point of Great Britain. Stewart finishes the
story with a gloom in his eyes. Suddenly, a naughty smile shows up.
- "No,
I'm just talking rubbish! The stone was erected by two council workers to a
third man, named Kempie, just for fun, while the three of them were here fixing
the roads."
You have
got to love the Scottish sense of humour...
